Boy Scout Water Drive a Tremendous Success!

Boy Scout Water Drive a Tremendous Success!

The Heart of Ohio Council, Boy Scouts of America, held a very successful water drive to provide clean drinking water to residents affected by the West Virginia chemical spill. On Saturday, the youth leadership Water 2of Heart of Ohio Council’s Portage Lodge of the Order of the Arrow decided to conduct a drinking water drive throughout the nine counties in North Central Ohio served by the council. Today, a little less than 72 hours later, two trucks departed from the council office in Ashland and delivered 2,754 gallons of clean drinking water collected by the Scouts to the Kanawha County Emergency Services distribution statiWater 1on in Charleston, West Virginia.

The people at the distribution center were very grateful to receive this water. The water was donated by people from throughout the Heart of Ohio Council’s territory on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning. It was then transported to the council headquarters in Ashland where it was sorted, counted and loaded onto trucks. It was mostly in cases of 16.9 oz. bottles. The trucks, driven by volunteers, left Ashland at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday and arriveWater 3d in Charleston about noon. Even though Charleston itself has been cleared to use tap water, many communities may not be cleared for several days yet.

The Scout Slogan is “Do a Good Turn Daily.” The Heart of Ohio Council, Boy Scouts of America would like to thank everyone who donated water, their time, and money to pay for transportation.

The Order of the Arrow is a Scouting service and honor society, and Portage Lodge is the local chapter chartered to the Heart of Ohio Council.
